Love on the Spectrum director addresses claims the cast get deliberately ‘mismatched’ for drama

Anyone who watched Love on the Spectrum season three will have seen the authentic dating journeys of the Netflix show’s cast play out. Folks are taken along for the ride as Connor, Tanner, Madison and co all attempt to find love. When it comes to some of the dates, it seemed the couplings weren’t quite right for each other. Now, the show’s director addresses wild claims about the cast getting deliberately ‘mismatched’ for drama.

Delving into the Love on the Spectrum dates

After arriving on Netflix three years ago, people are now pretty much obsessed with Love on the Spectrum.

The series saw some returning cast members and some newbies in season three.

We got to meet Pari, Madison for the first time while returning stars included James, Tanner, Connor, Abbey, David, Dani, and Adán.

There were some unsuccessful matches during the episodes, and there was a moment one participant, Brandon, had to leave his date during season three.

Although the crew did its best to pair people on the show they think they’d get on with, they don’t always get it right.

Love on the Spectrum director addresses ‘mismatching’ claims

Neurodiversity expert on the show, Jennifer Cook, explained how she doesn’t match the participants; she just helps them along their journeys.

The people responsible for matchmaking are actually the directors and producers.

Speaking to Reality Blurred, co-creator of the show, Cian O’Clery, explained:

“We match-make as producers. That’s just part of the process of the show because there aren’t necessarily those services being provided. It’s kind of, it’s fun. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that it’s fun, but it kind of is.”

Cian added how they’re not out to manufacture drama for the Love on the Spectrum cast.

He said they’d “never mismatch people on purpose.”

“…this isn’t that kind of show. We’re lucky enough that we’re making a show that is meant to be positive. And we’re not trying to find villains and manufacture conflict or drama where they may not be previously.”

When it comes to the amount of success stories to come out of the Netflix dating show, Cian added how he’s pleasantly surprised.

“So we just do our best to find people who we think, at the very minimum, could be a good friend, and hopefully something even more.

“We kind of take it from there. We’re very surprised, the amount of success and the amount of love in this new season is pretty phenomenal. Having said all of that, we could have found someone’s love of someone’s life.”
